Do you want to learn about Yukon’s fascinating geology from the comfort of your own classroom? Join YukonU’s Earth Science Instructors, students, and community experts (virtually) in the field through our collection of interactive field experiences. Our goal is to increase Earth Science literacy by developing accessible content, engaging activities, and teaching resources for educators who want to incorporate our field trips into their classroom. Our field trips cover a wide range of topics, including paleontology, local mineral industry, northern research, volcanoes, and more!
Yukon University’s Outreach Climatologist (Climate Change Research team, YukonU Research Centre) is devoted to developing and delivering learning modules that integrate into Yukon’s existing curriculum to support teachers in facilitating a clear understanding of the central issues surrounding climate change knowledge, adaptation, and mitigation. Learning modules are defined as any resource, material, or training that can benefit/be used by educators and students across Yukon to increase/improve climate change knowledge such as: lesson plans, reading materials, resources, activities, guest lectures, audiovisual materials, and workshops for educators based on needs and capacity. Material may focus on climate change science, impacts, solutions, policies, communication, health, and resilience and include Indigenous Knowledge of climate change, reconciliation, and local context.
The Outreach Climatologist is a 4 year project funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada, beginning in spring 2023. The project will focus on working with educators in Whitehorse for the first year, and working with educators in other Yukon communities during subsequent years of the project.
