Frequently Asked questions - Summer Camps

  • Why have the camps increased in price?

YMM’s camp costs have remained the same since 2018. The steep increase in associated operational costs, especially over the last few years, has put YMM in a difficult position. Despite this increase, our camps remain amongst the more cost-effective options in Whitehorse, and the variety in programming and themes, as well as our talented and capable staff, make them a great experience for any youth who attends them.

  • Why are there more spots available in each camp?

Increased capacity around community-based camps aligns these offerings more fully with the values guiding STEAM and trades programming, as well as with Yukon U’s commitments to reconciliation as outlined in the current Academic Plan. Though fewer camps will be open to the general public in Whitehorse, YMM has made the decision to increase the number of spots available in each camp to ensure the opportunity to engage with STEAM and trades, while maintaining an exemplary facilitator-to-camper ratio. This increase translates into more spots overall for youth to register than in previous years!

  • Why is the registration split by gender?

To create more equitable opportunities for youth in STEAM and trades, registration now split into "Registration for Female-Identifying and Non-Binary Participants" and "Registration for Male-Identifying and Non-Binary Participants". If the participant you are registering identifies as non-binary, please list their “gender” as non-binary, and select any available spot. Please note that although registration is split, both groups will be mixed in one co-ed camp (unless otherwise stated for all-girls and non-binary camps).

  • How does the waitlist work?

When a camp or program is full you may add your participant to the waitlist. If a spot in the program becomes available, everyone on the waitlist will be emailed and the spot will be filled by the first individual to register. We strongly recommend using this waitlist feature.

  • Extended care

Unfortunately, extended before or after care will not be available for summer camps or workshops.
