Student promotes sustainable energy consumption in the North
Inderjeet Kaur, a student research assistant in Northern Energy Innovation, is working with Yukon Energy to develop a campaign that will inform and encourage customers to conserve energy at specific times throughout the colder winter days. It is a low-cost approach to reducing energy consumption by informing ways to change energy usage.
During the winter, when the demand for energy supersedes green energy production (solar energy, wind, etc.), fossil fuels are used to meet the demands of the public. This project aims to see if strategic energy consumption in winter months can reduce peak energy usage. Campaign participants will discover tips like how to use energy more efficiently in the winter months. The campaign will be launched in the coming months.
Inderjeet began working on this project in May of 2021 as a summer student with funding from the Scholarly Activity Grant. This project has allowed her to learn more about Yukon’s electrical system while also promoting the use of renewable resources.
