WO CE77 - Leading and Managing in Public Operations 2: Project Management

This two-day course is the second part of the Leading and Managing in Public Operations series. Completion of WO CE61 prior to taking this course is recommended.

Public sector operations have evolved into extremely complex environments, with specific skills required by staff at all levels. This course is aimed at Operations staff in Utilities and Parks/Public Works who are currently in a supervisory and management role, or who wish to move into these roles in the future. The focus of the course is to develop a more detailed understanding of Project Management concepts. through case studies and discussion of a variety of projects at different phases of execution.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able:

-Identify the key processes to follow for effective Project Management
-Create a detailed Project Charter document
-Develop a Work Breakdown Structure
-Use scheduling tools for project success
-Identify and examine project budgets and procurement processes
-Assess appropriate risk management criteria for a sample project
-Utilize change management processes
-Define and determine project Stakeholders
-Develop key scalable components for a Communications Plan
