UPDATED: Ayamdigut campus returns to restricted access due to potential COVID-19 exposure
UPDATED Sept. 3:
- From Friday, September 4, Ayamdigut campus is open once again to students for in-person services and ID card pickup and employees may return to campus.
- The brief closure enabled us to conduct a targeted deep clean of campus and speak with those who may have been in contact with the two students.
- We will likely see brief closures like this going forward this term. This is why we are delivering most classes online and all support services are available via phone and video call – so any disruption is minimized.
- We will continue to make such decisions based on what we feel is the best to keep our students and employees safe and healthy and guidance from the Yukon Chief Medical Officer of Health.
WHITEHORSE, YT—This afternoon, Yukon University was informed by Yukon COVID-19 compliance officers that two students entered campus and moved into campus housing yesterday without undergoing the 14-day mandatory self-isolation as instructed when they entered Yukon.
The two students have no symptoms. They have now entered isolation and will monitored for 14 days.
The Yukon Chief Medical Officer of Health has advised the University that risk of COVID-19 infection is low. However, to prioritize the health and safety of students and employees and out of an abundance of caution the University has decided to restrict access to Ayamdigut Campus for 48 hours while the movements and interactions of the two students are traced.
The campus will return to the phase one level of students and employees studying and working from home and access to campus being restricted to authorized employees only.
Online classes will continue. In-person labs and shop classes will be rescheduled. Campus Housing occupants are asked to restrict their movements for two days also.
It is anticipated Ayamdigut Campus will reopen on Friday.
