Yukon College welcomes Dr. Janet Welch as vice president Academic and Student Services
WHITEHORSE—Dr. Janet Welch has joined Yukon College as vice president Academic and Student Services.
Dr. Welch was most recently associate vice president Academic at Lethbridge College and was previously an assistant dean in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta.
"Dr. Welch brings a strong background in educational technology and IT, as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning, both of which will serve Yukon College well as we transform into Yukon University,” said Dr. Karen Barnes, president and vice-chancellor of Yukon College.

The passionate faculty, diverse student body, successful research centre and high-quality programming signal a smooth transition to YukonU,” said Dr. Welch. “The vision and sense of purpose alive here is incomparable to other institutions I have experienced.”
Dr. Welch has over 29 years' experience in the post-secondary sector at both universities and colleges in Canada and abroad. She currently serves on the Teaching and Learning Advisory Board at Aga Khan University. In 2015, she was selected by former prime minister Kim Campbell to lead the design and development of first-year courses in the Peter Lougheed Leadership College at the University of Alberta.
Dr. Welch holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership/Educational Technology from the University of Phoenix, U.S.A., a Master of Science in Computer Based Information Systems from the University of Sunderland, U.K., and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Lethbridge, Alberta.
The vice president Academic and Student Services oversees the divisions of Applied Science & Management and Applied Arts, the Office of the Registrar and Student Services and IT and Learning Commons.
