HUMANS to headline 2015 Future Routes Festival

WHITEHORSE - Vancouver indie-electronic duo HUMANS will headline the 2015 Future Routes Music Festival. Made up of musicians Robbie Slade and Peter Ricq, HUMANS is currently touring behind the release of their debut album, Noontide, a polished blend of upbeat pop music and dark electronica.

“We are pleased that HUMANS have made Whitehorse the only northern stop on their current tour of Canada and the U.S.,” said Kara Johancsik, BYTE Communications Coordinator. “The duo’s catchy, danceable beats have given them a reputation as energetic live performers with a memorable stage presence."

This year’s festival is the venue for BYTE’s annual Battle of the Bands, a celebration for the Yukon College’s Orientation Week, and a fun, all-ages event featuring one of Canada’s biggest electronic acts.

“Battle of the Bands gives young people the opportunity to showcase their talents and get their foot in the door of the music industry,” said Johancsik. “By combining the Battle of the Bands with the Future Routes Music Festival, we will provide an exciting evening of live music for youth, students, and the community at large.”

The event takes place Friday, September 18, at the Yukon College Gym. Bands will compete before the audience and a panel of judges from 7:00-10:30 p.m. Once the winners are announced, HUMANS will entertain the crowd until late.

Bands and musicians under age 30 seeking to compete need to submit three songs, plus a 50 to 100-word bio and a list of members and instruments to bands@yukonyouth.com by August 31. Submission questions can be sent to Kara at communications@yukonyouth.com.

Stay tuned! Battle of the bands prizes, judging panel, and line-up will be released in the coming weeks.

The 2015 Future Routes Festival is presented by BYTE - Empowering Youth, Yukon College, and the Yukon College Student Union.
