Yukon College names Dr. Deborah Bartlette as VP Academic & Student Services
WHITEHORSE – Dr. Deborah Bartlette has been named as Vice President Academic and Student Services at Yukon College. Bartlette has been the Dean of Applied Arts at the College since 2010.
The Geldart Group, a company specialising in the recruitment of senior executives in post-secondary education, spoke to over 400 people across Canada and brought forward seven candidates to be interviewed for the position.
“It says a lot about the calibre of our staff, that an internal candidate won out over some very strong competition,” said Dr. Karen Barnes, President of Yukon College. “Dr. Bartlette is dedicated to our students and passionate about the Yukon. She will provide strong academic leadership at the College as we develop our own degree programs and as we implement the new strategic plan.”
“I am delighted to be taking on this new position at Yukon College. I look forward as VPA&SS to working more closely with Yukon First Nations and communities. It is an exciting time in the life of the College as we expand our ability to meet the growing educational and training needs of the Yukon and our students,” said Bartlette.
Bartlette has worked in the post-secondary education system since 1998. Prior to Yukon College she held leadership positions at Fraser Valley University, Simon Fraser University, Technical University of BC, and the Vancouver School of Theology. She is currently an adjunct professor in Education at SFU and a visiting graduate professor at Athabasca University and hopes to remain teaching at the graduate level.
Bartlette holds a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Simon Fraser University, a Masters in Distance Education from Athabasca University, a Master of Theological Studies from Vancouver School of Theology, a Bachelor of Administration Studies from Open University, and a Diploma in Business Administration from Red River Community College.
The VP Academic and Student Services oversees the divisions of Applied Science & Management and Applied Arts, the School of Academic and Skill Development, the Office of the Registrar, and the Centre for Teaching and Learning. It is one of two vice president positions at the College.
