Seasoned vets take top prize in Yukon College’s Community Challenge
WHITEHORSE− The Yukon College Community Challenge was a huge success during Sourdough Rendezvous activities this past weekend. Of the record 14 teams competing, it was the veterans who prevailed. The Beaver Cleavers from Shey-per Esthetics beat out reigning champs, Canadian Forces team Northern Defenders, to claim first place and $300.
However, with over half the teams participating for the first time, newcomers did not do badly. Taking second and third place were the Ice Frogs from the Association Franco-Yukonnaise and MacKay Magic from MacKay Accounting. Capturing the Red Lantern award for last place, offered for the first time this year, was the Yukon Employees Union team, The Bargainators.
“We would like to thank the record number of associations and businesses that sponsored teams in this year’s Community Challenge. It made for a highly spirited and fun event,” said Jacqueline Bedard, director of College Relations.
Prior to the competition, a lively Flash Mob featuring Leaping Feet dancers and led by an enthusiastic marching band, The Brass Knuckles, kicked off the event.
Events included tug-o-war, smoosh-boarding, tricycle races, 3-legged races, bed races, leg wrestling and a trivia contests. Other prizes awarded include best costumes, which went to the Westmark Winter Warriors for the second year running, and most enthusiastic which was claimed by Air North’s Team Airborne.
