JIBC develops partnership with Yukon College

Associate Certificate in Workplace Conflict now available to learners in the Yukon

JIBC and Yukon College have entered into a partnership to offer JIBC’s Associate Certificate in Workplace Conflict through the College’s Continuing Education and Training.

“Until recently, the relationship between our two organizations was around a credit transfer arrangement, where JIBC recognized five entry level conflict resolution courses delivered by Yukon College to be equivalent to five of ours,” said Laurie McAvoy, Program Coordinator with the JIBC School of Community and Social Justice. “Last year both parties agreed that the time was right to evolve the relationship into a full partnership.”

Starting in September 2011, Yukon College students can register for courses that comprise the JIBC Associate Certificate in Workplace Conflict and a selection of foundational core courses and electives from full certificate programs. These courses will be taught by Yukon College instructors, who have been provided a detailed orientation on delivering the JIBC curriculum.

It is anticipated that Yukon learners will be able to complete the JIBC Certificate in Conflict Resolution (Negotiation or Mediation/Third-Party specializations) within three years through this new partnership.

The previous credit transfer arrangement will stay in place until August 2012, so that learners who began their program at Yukon College can still apply for credit for courses completed under the old arrangement, while enrolling in additional JIBC courses through the new partnership.

“The evolution of our partnership with JIBC marks another milestone in the growth and development of Yukon College,” said Dave McHardy, Dean, Yukon College Division of Extension. “This strategic alliance will be of significant benefit to learners in the Yukon wishing to develop or upgrade their skill level, using the well-respected JIBC curriculum.”
