Yukon College enters an agreement with Justice Institute of British Columbia
Yukoners can now complete program certificates with the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) without having to leave the territory. Yukon College has just signed an agreement with JIBC to deliver conflict resolution training in Yukon. In partnership with JIBC, Yukon College will now expand its delivery of conflict resolution courses ensuring that Yukoners have access to local educational opportunities.
For over a decade, Yukon College has offered a series of five conflict resolution courses that are recognized by JIBC. Yukon College students were able to transfer these courses to JIBC (Vancouver) towards conflict management certificates. Students no longer have to leave the territory to complete conflict resolution certificates. This new partnership allows Yukon College to deliver these courses, leading to certification, with JIBC faculty in the Yukon. Continuing Education and Training is actively expanding the educational and professional opportunities for Yukoners, allowing us to further our careers without having to leave the Yukon, said Dan Anton, chair, Continuing Education and Training.
Beginning this fall, Yukon College will offer the JIBC conflict resolution courses leading to certificates in Workplace Conflict, Negotiation, and Mediation/Third Party. In the first eight months of partnership, Yukoners can complete the JIBC Associate Certificate in Workplace Conflict without leaving the territory. The Negotiation and Mediation certificates can be completed in the Yukon within three years.
Yukon College is working hard to build a community of learners who have access to the programming of their choice within their own communities, said Dave McHardy, dean, Extension, Division.
The JIBC courses will be offered regularly starting this fall at Yukon College. Students who have completed conflict resolution courses at Yukon College previously can continue to build upon their studies locally.
On May 12th and 13th, the JIBC dean and program coordinator will be visiting Yukon College to finalize this transition. The media are welcome to arrange an interview with Yukon College and JIBC at this time.
